The Joy of Less

The Everyday Minimalist is giving away a copy of The Joy of Less.

I've just submitted my entry and I do hope to win a copy. :)

The book is basically about de-cluttering your life to get more out of it.

You can read more about it here.

Enough is Enough

An interestring read to help us not want more & enjoy the simple things in life. (via RowdyKittens)

The most enlightening part of the article for me:

"The act of creating increases our capacity for enjoyment. When you make something, build something or imagine a new idea, you understand its nuances, its intricacies, its complexities. This knowledge increases your appreciation of the art and the satisfaction you derive from enjoying the final product."

Minimalism & Decisions

"At its core, Minimalism is about being aware that every decision you make is a value proposition, and that you need to judge how the consequences fit with your goals."

Project 333: Minimalist Fashion #project333

Inspired by Courtney Carver and her readers, I'm ready to take on Project 333.

The Basics (via Courtney's blog Be more with less)

  • When: January 1 – March 31, 2011
  • What: 33 items including clothing, accessories, jewelry, outerwear and shoes.
  • What not: these items are not counted as part of the 33 items – wedding ring or other sentimental piece of jewelry that you never take off, underwear, sleep wear, in-home lounge wear,  and workout clothing (you can only wear your workout clothing to workout)
  • How: Choose your 33 items, box up the remainder of your fashion statement, seal it with tape and put it out of site.
  • What else: consider that you are creating a wardrobe that you can live, work and play in for three months. Remember that this is not a project in suffering. If your clothes don’t fit or are in poor condition, replace them.

The other rules can be found here.

My 33 Items:

  1. Black sneakers
  2. Brown high-cut sneakers
  3. Black leather shoes
  4. Brown leather shoes
  5. White high-cut sneakers
  6. Dark blue loafers
  7. Black slip-on sneakers
  8. Grey straight-cut jeans
  9. Dark blue skinny jeans
  10. Blue khaki pants
  11. Dark green khaki pants
  12. Light grey pants
  13. Dark grey pants
  14. Black pants
  15. Light-checkered pants
  16. Dark pink shorts
  17. Denim shorts
  18. Striped t-shirt
  19. Blue t-shirt
  20. Black t-shirt
  21. Dark grey t-shirt
  22. Light grey polo shirt
  23. Dark blue polo shirt
  24. Red polo shirt
  25. Light purple polo shirt
  26. White shirt 1
  27. White shirt 2
  28. Off-white shirt
  29. Grey-striped shirt
  30. Blue shirt
  31. Dark grey shirt
  32. Dark brown shirt
  33. Dark grey chambray shirt

My Threebies (exceptions)

  1. Accessories (belts, watches, other jewelry) - During the process, I've managed to clear or donate about 80% of my accessories. I'm left with the 'must-haves'.
  2. Out of the country clothes (sweaters, jackets, ties) - Stuff I don't wear in Singapore due to the weather. I'm just too lazy to take them out of the storage box when I have to travel.
  3. Occasional clothes (board shorts, running shoes) -  Rarely worn.
